A unique one day radio station celebrating hair and hair dressing good and bad broadcasts in Glasgow on Friday 8 th December 2006, 12 noon – 5pm. A collaboration between internationally acclaimed sound artists Zoë Irvine and Mark Vernon and Glasgow-based designers Freight, Hairwaves FM will be based in the CCA and will transmit across the city on 87.7fm.

Blowing hot and cold on the subject of hairdryers and dropping bombshells about blondes, Hairwaves FM will feature music, interviews, cut-ups and clips, soundworks from invited guests around the world in various colours and lengths. It'll give the lowdown on highlights, the bald facts on barbers and the naked truth about streaks. There's something for everyone, from the carefully coiffured to the bedraggled bed-head.

Zoë says:
“We wanted to find a way to reach out to those that had been influencing us in the creation of the project. When Mark and I were
out recording we found many salons were tuned into various radio stations so this seemed like the ideal way to do it – and a really fun thing to do.”
