Hairwaves

Hairwaves was commissioned and designed by Freight. We worked with award-winning contemporary artists Zoe Irvine and Mark Vernon to complete a feature length 60 minute sound work on hair and hairdressing, good and bad. We created the packaging for the Hairwaves CD on GF Smith Colourplan with a distinctly hirsute texture and also commissioned illustrations by Dutch artist Danielle Lemaire.

To celebrate the launch of the CD, Hair FM, a special one-day Glasgow radio station devoted to all things hairy, was broadcast from Glasgow’s CCA Gallery. The station featured music, interviews, cut-ups and clips, sound works in various colours and lengths, combined to give listeners the lowdown on highlights, the bald facts on barbers and the naked truth about streaks. The Hairwaves CD was sent to clients and prospective clients and is available for sale on line and in galleries around the UK.
